RunRewa - The Story of the Manurewa FunRun

RunRewa, the Manurewa FunRun, is an annual community event put on by locals to draw the community together around a healthy activity and fun day for families. The key goals for this event are to:

  • provide an event for the local community to connect with each other around a healthy pursuit

  • promote a ‘can do’ mindset and a holistic whanau ora approach by supporting the taha tinana of te whare tapa wha

  • give back to our community! Have a great day in good company with the locals!

We welcome any and all to attend, whether you’re from our community or not, and we hope you have a fun, fulfilling and rewarding day!

“What was good about the running trainings? It helped with pacing ourselves, also it made us become fit and everyone was encouraging towards each other. The marathons? It was cool because there would be a team of us doing it and we supported each other throughout the whole thing, the vibes and everything was fun. What I got out of it? It taught me a lot but one thing that I got out of it was pacing myself to the right speed for marathons. It helped because I could run for ages and not get tired. How it impacted me? It has impacted me so much with my fitness level like before I started I didn’t know much about running & now it’s boosted up my confidence and it made me more passionate about running and training.”

“The running project was, and is, a really successful program that helped with your endurance and getting fitter. I got to participate in marathons like the Queenstown Marathon and the Taupo one too… others got to do more. What I got out of the running project was how to pace myself, and helping others that need help health-wise, and becoming closer with others.”

Who are we?

We are ConnectionCo, a community organisation focused on relationship and connection. A recent Harvard study, the longest of its kind, revealed the importance of quality relationships and their impact on long life and good mental health. From relationships within your family to those within your community, healthy, supportive relationships are the kind we want to facilitate.

We began as WhatHope Youth, a community group for young people, and for the last 5 years since our founding in 2014 we’ve provided various programmes for youth engagement in Manurewa.
